WENTWORTH PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

Held in the Mechanics Institute Wentworth

On Monday 16th February 2009 at 7.00pm

2103. Minutes

The minutes of the meeting held on 19th January were accepted as a true record and were authorised to be signed by the Chairman

Matters Arising

2104. The gates along the footpath in Wentworth Park have been replaced with a more access friendly type, but are not yet complete, the work is expected to be completed shortly.

2105. RMBC are not prepared to site a mirror at Nether Haugh, claiming it would be dangerous.

2106. The requested Kirby Lane litter pick will probably take place during the next few months, the area is considered traffic sensitive and RMBC will need to put additional safeguards in place to protect it's operatives.

2107. RMBC have acknowledged the report of the Harley bridge and nearby fencing, but no remedial work has yet taken place.

2108. The recent bad weather caused problems in the area and grit bins are to be requested for the following sites. Church Drive Cat Hill The School The Shop The car park & Clayfields Lane

It was also noted the bin on Occupation road is empty. Clerk to report

2109. The telephone box has been re-reported, but the glass panels are still missing

2110. Wentworth Estate is to write a letter of complaint to RMBC about the lack of gritting during the recent heavy snowfalls, in particular along Hague Lane, Cortworth Lane and Coley Lane. Clerk to write to RMBC on behalf of the parish council.

2111. The memorial tree has now been received and will be planted shortly

2112. The Parish Plan Group has successful negotiated two further street lights for Dike Hill in the proposed Harley street light scheme, 22 lamps are now proposed for the scheme. Members noted that further lights were requested from Wentworth Estate at the recent Village Partnership meeting. It was noted the new light outside the school has been successful in deterring parked cars in the evenings.

2113. Members asked that confirmation of the parish council's support for the A6135ARG and its aims and work done to date be issued to Tankersley parish council

2114. No further report is available from the group, however, it was noted that the speed sigh in Harley is not working, clerk to report

2116. Members noted the application for WREN funding for the Harley play scheme has been accepted and funds should be received in due course.

2119. The leaflet on the Village Ventures grants was passed the Parish Plan Group for further consideration.

Pro Active Councilling

2120. It was noted that the plans for the new Wentworth sports pavilion are near completion and once completed will allow tenders to be sought. The plans for park entrance have been revised, but it was thought it may cause parking issues along Clayfields Lane. A draft design for the light aircraft runway near Coach Road has been issued and was circulated to members.

2121. Wentworth Estate has noted that horses & riders have been seen in the wood along Back Lane behind the war memorial, alterations are to be made to the access to prevent reoccurrence .

2122. Wentworth Estate would like to discuss the actions needed to realise the parish plan, it was agreed that it be discussed a the April parish council meeting and that the meeting should commence at 6.30pm. Clerk to invite Mr Barber-Lomax and Mr Daley. Members to raise matters to be discussed at the meeting at the March Parish Council meeting

2123. A draft of the new style newsletter was circulated, clerk to advise Councillor Hales that members consent to their contact details being included.

Bus Service 44

2124. Further correspondence has been received from John Healey on the possible rescheduling of the service to improve access to Wentworth post office from the Harley area. It would appear difficult to reschedule the service, but a possible alternative is to extend the 92 service. It is understood a meeting is to take place between Mr Healey and SYPTE to discuss the matter further.

Open Forum

2125. It would appear the post box at Nether Haugh has been sealed by Royal Mail, Councillor Jones to confirm and the clerk to request an explanation from Royal Mail on confirmation

2126. Members noted that Sheffield Council is hoping to re-open 9 recently closed post offices and requested that RMBC be asked if they have a strategy to prevent the automatic closure of post offices and if this strategy has been discussed at any council meetings. 2127. Councillor Lomas asked that consideration be given to planned expenditure and that contracts be arranged to cover repeat expenditure such as grounds maintenance. Item to be added to the agenda

2128. Councillor Lomas asked that consideration be given to the purchase of a speed sign, of the parish council's choice, for the area near Wentworth war memorial. Item to be added to the agenda

2129. Mr Morley asked that the parish council consider allocating responsibilities to members which align with the parish plan and for which members could request funds from the parish council

2130. Councillor Hunton asked that improvements to the car park entrance be considered, item to be added to agenda

Next Meeting

2131. The next meeting was confirmed as the 16th March 2009 at 6.15pm at the Mechanic's Institute, followed by the area assembly at 7.30pm Agenda to be distributed.
